From 770, We're Marching Out...

Everyone knows that Crown Heights is filled with all sorts of interesting people. However, there is a new type of interesting person which I have recently encountered. One shabbas night, after a rather fun and drunken bein hashmashos, we were all seated around the shabbas table and my friend sitting next to me was talking about 770. Now I love 770 and I believe it is a very very special place, but I had to ask just to make sure. "Mendy, where is the holiest place on the planet?" It was a dumb question, I thought but I thought I'd set a baseline in the conversation.

"770" came his reply. I was fairly shocked and I made it very clear to him that he was wrong on this issue. I thought the answer to this question was fairly obvious for any frum Jew, but I guess not.

I was in Chocolatte a few weeks later and this same question was still bothering me. I decided to take a public poll of the people currently sitting in Chocolatte. I was shocked how many people incorrectly think that 770 Eastern Parkway, in the middle of our golus could possibly think this was the holiest place on the planet. To be fair, a few got the correct answer, but this was shocking and disturbing.

And for all those who have been smugly reading this article thinking you're so smart and know the correct answer, 99% of you are still wrong. The Kotel is a crappy supporting wall of the real answer, the Har Habayis. Don't be idiots.
